Welcome To My Life As A Boudoir Photographer

Have you ever had one of those moments where you're faced with a split-second decision? Where one option is standard (and boring) and the other is exciting but will probably get you into trouble? Welcome to my life!

I was in the Calgary airport, on my way to Las Vegas for a boudoir shoot, going through the typical airport routine... flight check in, security and then the TSA checkpoint.

The TSA agent started with the standard questions:

"Where are you headed?",

"How long will you be staying?", "Business or pleasure?"

When I answered "business" he followed up with the inevitable, “What do you do for work?”

In that split second, I had two voices in my head. On my left shoulder, my angel calmly said, “Just say photographer... This is not the time or place to mess around.”

On my right shoulder? My cheeky little devil was grinning and saying

“I wonder how this guy would react if you said something shocking...”

I paused for a split second, while my mind was flipping back and forth between the angel's safe, boring advice and the devil's tempting mischief. Truth be told - I've always had a soft spot for the devil’s ideas.

After a split second of indecision, I made my choice... Can you guess which side won?

I looked the TSA agent dead in the eye and with full confidence said, “I take pictures of naked women.”

I maintained eye contact with him, eagerly waiting to see his reaction... I mean ,how much trouble could I possibly get into? Don't worry I weighed the risk and reward.

He looks at me, his eyes widened, and I could see him desperately trying to keep a straight face. Well, he lost that battle and cracked a big grin. He handed me back my passport, and with a chuckle said, “Have a great time.”

And just like that, I made a TSA agent blush.

Being a boudoir photographer isn’t your typical 9-to-5... it’s a wild ride filled with unexpected, cheeky moments like making TSA smile. You gotta add your personality to life. Sure, most people might think it was a risky move... but I like to keep things interesting when the moment feels right.
